Facts About Some of Our Favorite Lakes

The state of North Carolina is known for its picturesque views whether that be beachfront, mountaintop, or lakefront. With all the outdoor activities available ranging from hiking to fishing, it is a beautiful state that offers something for everyone to enjoy. This blog post by Motor Boatin’ shares facts about some of our favorite lakes in the local area: Falls, Jordan, Harris, and Kerr Lake.

Learn more about 4 of our favorite lakes in North Carolina:

1. Falls Lake: Falls Lake covers over 12,000 acres. Its peaceful atmosphere is great for camping, hiking, or laying out in the sun on a sandy beach. It is named after “Falls of the Neuse” which was once a whitewater section of the Neuse River. Although there’s no more whitewater areas, it is the perfect spot for families to boat, fish, or swim in uncrowded waters.

2. Jordan Lake: With over 13,000 acres, Jordan Lake is a common choice for many families, especially with children because of all the activities available. This lake was created for the New Hope River Valley (now known as Research Triangle Park) based on water resource needs. In 1963, the project was named New Hope Lake. The name was changed in 1973 to B. Everett Jordan Lake in honor of a senator.

3. Harris Lake: Located on the Shearon Harris Reservoir, Harris Lake covers over 4,000 acres. It encompasses a park of around 680 acres that includes trails, picnic areas, a disc golf course, and more. It is a quiet and well-maintained area to spend your day at.

4. Kerr Lake: Kerr Lake is one of the largest lakes in the entire state and takes up over 50,000 acres. Surrounding the lake are vast forests where common NC mammals such as white-tailed deer, gray squirrels, red foxes, and many more call home. With 500 miles of shoreline and 3,400 acres of recreation sites, there is plenty of beauty to take in at Kerr Lake.

All these lakes are close to home but offer that sense of a unique getaway. Get out there and explore all North Carolina has to offer by renting with Motor Boatin’. On a lake is our favorite place to be. Reserve your boat today and contact us with any questions you may have.

All About Yamaha WaveRunners

Yamaha WaveRunners, especially the VX Deluxe model that we carry at Motor Boatin’, are among the best equipped, most fuel-efficient, and well-designed personal watercraft on the market. But that’s not all—they’re also loads of fun to drive on the lake!

WaveRunners are jet-propulsion watercraft. This means that for the jet ski to move through the water, it must pull in water and then push it out the back end. When a rider squeezes the throttle trigger, the engine and pump force the water out a nozzle in the rear of the watercraft. This propels the WaveRunner forward. The nozzle feature effectively works the same way your thumb would when placed over the end of a fast-flowing garden hose. It reduces the line size and causes the water’s velocity to increase.

Steering the watercraft works in the same way. When the rider turns the handlebars, the nozzle turns in the back. This is done by cables that are connected to each end and run through pulleys. The propulsion when pointed at a different angle turns the watercraft in the direction the handlebars are turned. Unlike other jet skis, Yamahas can turn without squeezing the accelerator.

There is plenty of storage in a WaveRunner. There is a small compartment located in the area between the seat and the handlebars, and there is a much larger storage compartment in the front of the hull. It is easy to fit a small soft cooler inside to transport out to the lake for when you find a spot to stop and chill.

WaveRunners are also known for their famous rooster tail. Believe it or not, Yamaha added the rooster tail as a feature to help other boaters and riders on the lake view the WaveRunner and have an idea of how fast the craft is moving. The more a rider squeezes the trigger, the higher the rooster tail goes in the air.

The Top Four Reasons Boaters Love Falls Lake

Falls Lake is one of the most popular lakes in the Raleigh area and it’s our personal favorite as well. We love it so much that we have based our recreational boat rental business on this lake!

Here are a few reason boaters love Falls Lake:

  1. So much space to explore: Falls Lake is pretty big. It stretches out through 12,000 acres, providing lots of space to take a boat out. There are wider areas to really let loose and smaller areas for more quiet relaxation. We find that whatever kind of boating experience we want, Falls Lake has a spot for it.
  2. Close to home but still a getaway: The lake is pretty central to Raleigh and Durham, but it’s still a little bit out of the way. The short drive coupled with the undeveloped surroundings makes it feel like you’re really away while still being close to home.
  3. Activities: There are many activities beyond boating available at Falls Lake. You can camp and make a whole weekend out of boating, enjoying beaches, hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing and more.
  4. Year-round appeal: Because it’s undeveloped, you get to really enjoy nature’s beauty at this lake. The lushness of summer, the colors of fall, the quiet stillness of winter and the burst of new growth in the spring are all on full display at Falls Lake.

To us, the best way to enjoy Falls Lake is by boat, which is why we’re in the business that we are in. Rent a boat and spend some time on Falls Lake. Check out the boats and jet skis available to rent or contact us with any questions. Don’t forget to take advantage of the special we are running for the month of February – purchase a rental and get free rental insurance and a towable tube.

5 Helpful Spring Cleaning Tips for Every Boat

Spring is here and warmer weather is on the way. Time to get the boats ready for the season with some spring cleaning tips from Motor Boatin’. Our boats are always kept up to a high standard of cleanliness and safety regulated for boat rentals.

Get a boat ready for spring by cleaning:Spring Cleaning Tips for Every Boat in North Carolina

  • Boat upholstery: Use the right type of brush to address stubborn dirt. Do research on the best cleaners for each type of upholstery. Using the correct materials helps shorten the cleaning process while also making sure the cleaner used is not causing damage.
  • Windshields: Use window cleaning solution with a soft cloth to clean off window stains. The cloth helps to prevent streaks. Clean windshields when it is cooler outside and the windshield is out of direct sunlight.
  • Deck: Use a hose and a boat cleaning solution for the boat deck. Measure out the correct proportion of water to cleaner. Use a brush to get difficult dried on dirt and stains out.
  • Exteriors: Use a hose with a nozzle that propels more water over a larger surface, but it is NOT a pressure/power washer. If it is the type of hose that already mixes in the cleaner, measure out the proportions correctly. Use buckets with a water and cleaning solution and a sponge to get to harder to clean spots. Rinse throughout the process to prevent the sun from drying the cleaner’s solvents onto the boat. Use soft and absorbent towels to dry off the boat. Use the appropriate wax and wax amount to seal the boat against the sun’s rays and water’s corrosive properties.

As always, it is good to have a cleaning kit on board for messes and spills. Keep some cleaning wipes, window cleaner, paper towels, and cloths for quick fixes. For more tips on keeping boats clean and ready for spring, contact Motor Boatin’.

Safety Tips for Boaters in the Fall and Winter

Just because the summer winds have left the Triangle area doesn’t mean that it’s time to retire water activities. Boating can be just as enjoyable in the fall and winter months! With the cooler weather, the beaming rays of sunshine are less intense, there’s beautiful scenery with the fall foliage, and there are considerably less people to contend with on the water.Raleigh Boat Rental in North Carolina

At Motor Boatin’, we love to encourage people to get out and enjoy activities at Falls Lake regardless of what season it is. However, it is important to realize that a change in weather means a change in safety protocols before heading out to enjoy the water.

A few key points for safety to consider when boating in the fall and winter months are:

  • Dress Appropriately. This should be a no-brainer, but you’d be surprised how many people fail to dress appropriately when they’re out on the water in the fall and winter months. The falling temperatures affect the air, and higher winds can cause choppy water. The risk here is falling overboard into frigid waters, so be cautious and dress appropriately to keep warm!
  • Remember There’s Less Daylight. The days get shorter when the seasons change. This can affect the temperatures and the amount of time to enjoy boating before it’s too dark. Make sure to keep track of the day while you’re out on the water and allow plenty of time to return to the dock before it’s too dark to navigate effectively.
  • Check the Boat. Those who are renting a boat from us here at Motor Boatin’ can rest assured that we will ensure all parts are working properly before you head out. However, boat owners should remember to check pumps, engines, and communication systems to verify that the vessel is safe and the effects of the temperatures won’t be detrimental to its operation.

Before getting cozy and staying indoors for the holidays, consider squeezing in a few more adventures out on the water! Give us a call at Motor Boatin’ to see your boat rental options.

Water and Boating Safety: What to Watch Out For on the Water

Whether renting a boat for leisure or a jet ski for more of a thrill, it’s important to employ practical water safety measures. No matter how much experience someone has on the water, the unexpected can happen. However, with thorough preparation and attention to detail, boating and other water activities can be both safe and enjoyable.

5 key water and boating safety tips recommended by our friendly staff of Motor Boatin serving the Falls Lake community are:

  • Check the Weather. Before heading out, always check a local Raleigh report for weather updates. When on the water, be aware of darkening clouds or any changes that may pose a problem and get to land safely and quickly. Remember: if in doubt, don’t go out.
  • Falls Lake in North CarolinaUse a Pre-Departure Checklist. Another useful way to maintain water and boating safety is using a relevant checklist. Ensuring that life jackets, distress signals, lights, fuel, and other tools are present and operating properly on the boat before departing will guarantee safety on the water should anything occur.
  • Be Alert. Open water is treated as an intersection, so always be aware of other boaters and those enjoying water sports. They may not notice other boats or jet skis, so keeping an eagle-eye out for any possible dangers or collisions is the first step to preventing them.
  • Be Considerate. If others are out enjoying a day on Falls Lake, please be mindful of where they’re located and what they’re doing. Flying by too quickly could create waves and ripples that potentially affect their safety on the water.
  • Loose the Booze. Enjoying a nice day on a pontoon boat may seem like the perfect chance to imbibe and enjoy a few drinks. But the rules that apply to operating a vehicle on land also apply to boating on the water. In NC, it is prohibited to operate a boat or any personal water device under the influence of drugs or alcohol, with the legal BAC limit being 0.08%.

Taking the time to ensure proper safety procedures will guarantee a great day on the lake with fun boating and water activities! If you’re interested in renting a jet ski or pontoon boat, stop by and see us at Motor Boatin off of Falls Lake to see your options!

Does Jordan or Falls Lake Offer the Best Jet Ski Rentals?

Know where someone can rent jet skis in the Raleigh area? Most people will answer and say, “Jordan Lake,” but there are more options than just Jordan Lake. Motor-Boatin is the exclusive company that offers jet ski rentals in Raleigh and serves Falls Lake.

But everyone knows Jordan Lake, why should I go to Falls Lake? Falls Lake has some great advantages for jet ski renters and boat renters in Raleigh, NC.  Jet Ski Rental

3 Reasons to Rent a Jet Ski on Falls Lake instead of using Jordan Lake Jet Ski Rentals:

  1. Easier To Ride. Because most Raleigh citizens think of Jordan Lake for jet ski rentals, it is heavily crowded. Falls Lake offers more area to ride and enjoy jet skis. While Falls Lake does offer many of the same watersport options as Jordan Lake, our population on the water is much less dense than Jordan Lake.
  2. Fewer Crowds. Falls Lake and Jordan Lake are both State Parks; who knew? However, Jordan Lake has been established longer and is more well known in the Raleigh area. That means when someone is looking to get out on the lake with their boat or jet skis, they are much more likely to choose Jordan Lake than Falls Lake. With more people choosing Jordan Lake, there are more crowds.
  3. Best Jet Ski Rentals Around. Motor-Boatin is jet ski rental and boat rental company on Falls Lake. Our jet skis rentals are similar to what you can get on the coast with hourly, half day, and full day rentals. And we’ve heard that our customer service is one of the reasons we are chosen time and time again.

Have questions about what Falls Lake jet ski rentals are available? Contact Motor-Boatin today by calling 919-800-9716 or email to see jet and boat ski rentals are available for this weekend at info@motor-boatin.com.
