The 4th of July is coming up quick, and there is no better
way to spend the holiday than on a boat with friends and family. Whether you
have a boat of your own or you are planning on renting at Motor Boatin’, we want everyone
to have the boat day they deserve! To get the most out of the holiday, try
following our boating guide for the Fourth of July and have the time of your
Here are some top
tips for boating on the 4th of July:
Bring food, food, and more food: When you’re out on the water all day, nobody wants to worry about being hungry. Packing snacks and lunches is an important part of any boating day. You can even choose festive options such as patriotic-colored fruit trays or bright, bold fruity drinks to stay fueled and hydrated throughout the day.
Safety is key: On any boating day, it is important to be safe and practice proper boating etiquette, but this is especially true on the 4th of July. The waters are always more crowded and being cautious and safe is important. Check here for our safety FAQs.
Get to your firework spot early: Is there anything more American than watching fireworks on the lake? We don’t think so. When watching a firework show on the water, it is important to get to your spot early and leave late. This allows you to pick the location before anyone else while also avoiding lots of boat traffic that no one wants to deal with.
Don’t forget sunscreen: Out on the water all day in the middle of summer, sunburns seem inevitable yet many falls victim to blistered skin. Making sure you have some good SPF and are applying throughout the day can save you from looking red, white, and blue.

It’s almost officially summer, and there is no better way to spend the
day in the beautiful weather around the Triangle than on the lake on a boat.
Everyone seems to agree with this which is why crowded waters are more and more
common during this season. There is nothing to be worried about in crowded
waters as long as the proper precautions are taken. At Motor Boatin’, we believe that
safe boating is the best type of boating out there which is why we want to help.
Here are five tips for navigating crowded waters this summer:
Never drink and boat: While boating out with friends might seem like one big party, safety is important, and the person driving the boat should not be consuming alcohol. You wouldn’t drink and drive, so do not try drinking and boating either. Having a clear mindset and good visual awareness is crucial when navigating crowded waters for not only your own safety but the safety of others as well.
Keep your speed in mind: When boating in a crowded area, slow and steady wins the race. The slower the speed the more time there is to take in the surroundings and properly navigate the situation. Trying to quickly get through the area can lead to mistakes and rougher water which is bound to cause accidents.
Have a designated skipper: When boating, make sure that there is someone else who knows about the operations of a boat. Having someone to help out can make a stressful crowded situation more manageable and all around safer for all.
Keep distance from crowds: While the crowds can’t always be avoided, doing your best to go around them is important. If you see a crowded area in the distance, if possible, go the other direction or anchor up and enjoy the current location you’re already at.
Always wear a life vest: You never know what is going to happen and it is always better to be safe than sorry. Having the proper flotation devices can help avoid a bad situation. There is also a law in North Carolina that requires anyone younger than 13 to wear an appropriate life vest when on a recreational vessel.
During the summertime, boating is a great way to enjoy and relax in the
wonderful weather but being safe is more important than anything. Taking the
proper precautions when boating crowded waters can make all the difference. For

To ensure a long, fun-filled day out on the lake, safety must be a number one priority for all individuals looking to ride or operate any type of watercraft. At Motor Boatin, we know and understand the importance of boating safety.
five tips to ensure the safety of all passengers onboard:
Take a course:At Motor Boatin, a lot of our boaters are beginners. This is why safety courses can be extremely helpful. They can help boaters feel more comfortable and confident when out on the water. Here is a free online course.
Know how to properly use life jackets: Life jackets can be the difference between life and death. Even the most experienced swimmers should consider wearing a life jacket. In North Carolina, children under 13 are required to wear an appropriate life vest when the vessel is underway.
Don’t overload the boat:Parties should always follow the specified person limit when deciding how many individuals will be on the boat. It is especially crucial to not gather at the end of one side of the boat. This can cause the boat to flip and people to potentially drown, therefore, it is extremely dangerous to overcrowd the boat.
Avoid alcohol:Operating a boat while under the influence of alcohol is illegal. It can severely affect your sense of judgement and is one of the leading causes of boat accidents. Keep yourself and your party safe by just avoiding alcohol altogether when operating a watercraft.
Regularly check the hourly weather conditions:It is important to check the hourly weather conditions in the nearby area because as a storm approaches, so do unsafe boating conditions. Remember that, at Motor Boatin, rentals can be rescheduled before reservation date with no penalty. Going out on the water during an extreme storm is not worth risking your life.
Safety always comes first! If you feel like venturing out on the water for the first time, reserve a rental from Motor Boatin today. Our goal is to make everyone feel confident when boating. Contact us for more information.

Renting your first boat? There is nothing more exciting than getting out on the water for the first time! With the warm weather, open water and all the fun you can imagine at your fingertips, we are so excited to welcome you to the Motor Boatin family. To help you get started, we compiled a couple of our favorite tips and tricks for your first time out on the water.
Here are three tips to help navigate a lake for the first time:
Review our rental policy: This is a great place to start. Review our rental policy here before your arrival. When you arrive, talk to the rental staff about any questions or concerns. They won’t just take your money and hand you the keys; they’ll talk you through safety rules and regulations and help find he best boat for you.
Know your limits:If you aren’t familiar with the water, stay with a group or get a chart of the water you’ll be navigating and take a short route at first. There is a lot of learning that will take place out on the water so take it slow and remind yourself that you are a beginner.
Check your surroundings: You should always have a reasonable idea of where you are in a large body of water. Regulars out on the lake typically recognize buildings on the shoreline that give them an idea of where they are at. While this method works under normal circumstances, if you try to find your way back after dark, everything will look different. In unfamiliar waters, it is good to have maps so you can locate your launch point and use a compass to find your way back. It is also helpful to ask our staff about landmarks, maps and GPS capabilities.

Operating a boat or personal watercraft can
seem a little challenging especially the first time. For this reason, those new
to boating come in with all kinds of questions. Although at first glance they
may sound funny to experienced boaters, they are all valid questions that
deserve to be answered.
are four of our frequently asked questions:
Where are the brakes? There are actually no brakes on any type of watercraft. This stresses the importance of not speeding while operating and shows why speeding is one of the leading causes of boat collisions. Drivers can however use reverse to slow the watercraft down.
How do I stop Jet Skis? Jet Skis are included when we say there are no brakes in all watercraft. Individuals can use reverse to help maneuver and to slow down, but there is no way to completely stop. If you are unable to slow down, remember to stop the engine way before getting ashore. This will prevent damage to the motor of the Jet Ski.
Why is the boat not moving?First, is the motor down in the water? If not, that is the problem. This is actually a more common question than you may think. To fix this, use the trim button on the gear shifter and squeeze it down to put the motor down. This will allow the motor to work properly and ensure that the boat starts moving. Boaters don’t realize while they have their hand on the shifter, their thumb is almost always on the trim up/down button and they press the button up while pushing the shifter. To correct the motor out of the water, press the button down.
Why isn’t my boat cranking? Before doing anything else, check to make sure the kill switch is attached and that the shifter is in neutral. Otherwise, this could be an actual problem. To prevent any possible damage, immediately call us at (919)-800-9716 for further assistance.

Many people see fishing as a fun pastime, but
did you know that fishing actually has many physical and mental health benefits
as well? From increasing vitamin D intake to reducing stress levels, fishing
provides a large range of benefits for personal health which makes it good for
the body and mind.
are five health benefits of fishing:
Increase in vitamin D intake:Whether it’s a sunny or cloudy day, one can get vitamin D while fishing. Vitamin D plays a vital role in boosting our immune systems and keeping our bones healthy. It also helps regulate moods and can make people happier overall.
Provides exercise:Fishing is surprisingly a great, low-impact exercise. It engages a person’s shoulders, back, arms, core, and legs. Research shows that just being outdoors also encourages a healthier lifestyle.
Improves blood pressure: Spending time fishing has been shown to decrease a person’s blood pressure. Being surrounded by nature for even just 30 minutes lowers blood pressure and improves overall health by reducing the risk of having a heart attack or stroke.
Boosts concentration: Over time, studies have shown that adults have far shorter attention spans than in previous decades. By unplugging and directing their attention toward fishing, individuals can boost their short-term concentration. Throughout many fishing sessions, people can improve their long-term concentration over time.
Reduces stress: Many people are aware of the relaxation that fishing brings. Fishing relieves pressure and stress that one might feel. Similar to meditation, fishing takes a person’s mind off of any internal thoughts or stress.

provides health benefits for all ages. If you and your family are looking to

Safety is the number one priority for all
passengers of a boat or any other watercraft and this includes the safety of
our furry friends. Pet owners shouldn’t have to risk the well-being of their
pets in order to enjoy a nice boat ride with them.
are five pet safety tips while boating:
Bring a pet life jacket: Life jackets are essential for humans but also for pets. Even though most dogs can swim, swimming becomes harder in rougher currents or if they are fatigued. Therefore, buying a life jacket that fits securely is important to reduce any potential risks.
Pack lots of water: Water is a necessity for any boat ride but especially for warmer days. Having a bowl and cold water readily available allows for pets to drink throughout the day to stay hydrated.
Plan for bathroom breaks:Planning times throughout the day for bathroom breaks is always a good idea when boating with any kind of animal. Some dogs may prefer to use a potty pad while on board, but others may feel more comfortable using real grass ashore.
Apply sunscreen: Pets need sunscreen too! Many pet owners forget to think about bringing sunscreen for their animals, however, it is very important for their skin. Dogs that are light-colored or have thin fur are at higher risk of becoming sunburned.
Make a canine first aid kit:Much like a human first aid kit, a canine first aid kit is useful if boat passengers come across any dangerous situations with their animals. Some possible items to pack are antibiotics for cuts, gauze, or any other emergency supplies.

on the water with your furry friend can lead to many wonderful memories. If you
