Three Family Fun Boating Activities To Try This Summer

Summer is almost here, and after a long winter and months of social distancing, everyone in the Raleigh area is itching to get out and have some fun. Fortunately, Motor Boatin’ has great family fun options that keep us all safe during the pandemic.

Here are three of our favorite family activities on boats:

  1. Towables: Any toy that one can tie onto the back of a boat, throw kids on and haul off into the water is guaranteed family fun. Whether it’s a simple old-school tube or a big fancy one, it doesn’t really matter. Kids and adults will have a blast on them. If you want kids who are dead tired after a day on a boat, this is definitely the way to go.
  2. Floating islands: Islands and platforms are great. We love to find a quiet area on a lake and set one of these up. It basically extends the ‘square footage’ of the boat to have a little more living space for everyone to spread out and enjoy the day, much like adding a patio to a home, but easier. The extra space also allows more designated splash areas away from those members of the family who want a more laid-back day on a boat.
  3. Fishing: We are always surprised at how much kids love fishing. Even the ones you think would be completely bored with fishing are usually really into it. And to go fishing off a boat is even more exciting. There’s a lot of family fun in cruising a lake, finding what one hopes will be a great spot, casting a line and seeing what one catches. And the cool thing about fishing on a boat is that there’s a sense of accomplishment and learning after a day of fishing.

How to Safely Enjoy a Day Out on the Boat

The newest term in all of our vocabularies is… social distancing. One of the biggest questions we have been asked at Motor Boatin’ is, can one rent a boat and social distance safely? The answer is yes! But there are some very specific ways to stay socially distant while on the water.

4 ways Motor Boatin’ is promoting social distancing while renting boats are:

  1. Families Only: We are trying to rent our boats only to couples, families, and groups that have already been together through the stay-at-home order. We don’t want a large party on a boat, or any additional spread of the coronavirus happening on one of our boats.
  2. Regular Cleanings: After each boat is rented and comes back in, it gets a thorough cleaning and disinfecting. Our cleaner is a commercial grade disinfectant approved by the CDC to kill all viruses, whether it is the coronavirus or something else.
  3. Time Spacing: We are spacing out our rentals to ensure that there is no rush during our cleaning process or potential spread between boaters.
  4. Spacing on Land: While on the boat, all boat renters have enough space between them to cover the social distancing requirements. However, on land and on the docks, we are requiring our guests keep at least 6 feet apart as well. Spacing out our rentals limits the number of guests that are on the docks at any given time, as well.

If you are cooped up and need to get out of the house, we would love to help out your family!  At Motor Boatin’, our rentals will make the time on the water a memorable one. Take a moment now to reserve one of our quality rentals for this weekend.

The Top Four Reasons Boaters Love Falls Lake

Falls Lake is one of the most popular lakes in the Raleigh area and it’s our personal favorite as well. We love it so much that we have based our recreational boat rental business on this lake!

Here are a few reason boaters love Falls Lake:

  1. So much space to explore: Falls Lake is pretty big. It stretches out through 12,000 acres, providing lots of space to take a boat out. There are wider areas to really let loose and smaller areas for more quiet relaxation. We find that whatever kind of boating experience we want, Falls Lake has a spot for it.
  2. Close to home but still a getaway: The lake is pretty central to Raleigh and Durham, but it’s still a little bit out of the way. The short drive coupled with the undeveloped surroundings makes it feel like you’re really away while still being close to home.
  3. Activities: There are many activities beyond boating available at Falls Lake. You can camp and make a whole weekend out of boating, enjoying beaches, hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing and more.
  4. Year-round appeal: Because it’s undeveloped, you get to really enjoy nature’s beauty at this lake. The lushness of summer, the colors of fall, the quiet stillness of winter and the burst of new growth in the spring are all on full display at Falls Lake.

To us, the best way to enjoy Falls Lake is by boat, which is why we’re in the business that we are in. Rent a boat and spend some time on Falls Lake. Check out the boats and jet skis available to rent or contact us with any questions. Don’t forget to take advantage of the special we are running for the month of February – purchase a rental and get free rental insurance and a towable tube.

Family Activities on a Boat to Entertain Kids

It might seem that taking the kids out on the lake on a rental boat is enough entertainment to keep them occupied and happy for several hours. The reality is that although this is one of the best family activities, kids can become bored. Here are a few ways you can avoid them saying “Can we go home yet?”

1. Include a friend or two. Not only will your kids enjoy having their friends along, you’ll beef up their popularity rating when word gets out what a great time they had. If your kids are familiar with the boat safety rules, let them instruct their friends, which makes them feel important.

Family Activities

2. Bring a fishing rod. There are some adorable kids’ fishing rods on the market today that are decent quality. Some kids will love to bait the hook, while others might shy away from it, but they’ll all feel great when they catch their first fish.

3. Put them in charge of music. Putting a kid in charge of choosing songs from a playlist is a great way to involve them in the family activities. They are entertained, and you get to enjoy the music. Sure, you could set it up to play randomly, but they will love being in charge.

4. Take a couple of toys. You might not want to take a chance with expensive electronics on the boat, but that doesn’t mean they can’t take a few cheaper things to entertain them. Consider such options as coloring books, playdough or a remote-control boat.

Family activities on the lake are great fun, and here at Motor-Boatin LLC, we can help make that possible. Our boat rentals are easy to arrange with 24-hour online booking services. We offer different types of boats, including motorboats, bass boats, pontoon boats, and more. Call us if you have any questions.

Things to Take for Family Activities on the Lake

A day on the lake is one of those family activities that can create life-long memories – provided you plan properly! You don’t want to have to cut your day short because you forgot to take something important with you. Here are the top things you should have with you for a fun-filled day on the lake:

1. Water – While you will have plenty of water all around, you wouldn’t want to drink it. Expect to get thirstier than usual when out in the sun and fresh air. There’s nothing wrong with taking your other favorite beverages, but be sure to include lots of water, too.

Family Activities

2. Sunscreen – Depending on the type of boat you’ll have, shade could be at a premium. If you don’t like the chemicals in traditional sunscreen, don’t go without, as there are natural options available. Apply before you head out and reapply as needed.

3. Snacks – You will also build up an appetite out on the water, so be sure to take snacks or even prepared meals, such as a loaf of bread and sandwich fixings. Fruit, chips, cookies, and other snacks are always appreciated during any family activities.

4. Sunglasses – The glare on the water is dangerous for your eyes. Be sure you have UV-blocking sunglasses. A great tip here is to get a low-cost pair for on the lake because it doesn’t take much for them to end up sleeping with the fishes.

5. Trash Bag – The lake is not a trash can! Take a trash bag with you for empty cans and other waste. You can also use your cooler so you can take empties back home with you.

6. First Aid Kit – It might seem like there aren’t many dangers out on the water, but things can happen. Better to be prepared than cut your day of family activities short because someone gets a cut and you can’t find any bandages.

7. Disposable Products – Consider paper plates for snacking, paper towels for cleaning up messes, and toilet paper. Remember, use the trash bag, not the lake, when you’re done.
