Frequently Asked Questions and Other Information

PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS-A FEW THINGS I CHUCKLE AT BUT ALL ARE HELPFUL!

LATE FEES-You Motor-Boaters are doing great at being on time!  Thank you and the next customer Thanks you!

  • WHAT IF I AM LATE FOR THE PICK UP TIME?
    • If you arrive late, the return time doesn’t change.  We will try to call and wait 15 minutes after scheduled time and then reload the boat or ski and return it at the next open time for a $50 delivery fee.
      • If you are going to be 15 or more minutes late, please call or text as soon as you know.  We will check the schedule and if we can wait with no negative effects, we will happily change your time to not cause you a re-delivery fee.
      • If we are at the ramp and you call less than 15 minutes before pick up time and will be more than 30 minutes after scheduled pick up time, we will load the boat or ski and delivery it after your arrival at the next open time for a $50 delivery fee.
      • If you are 2 hrs late,
  • WHAT ABOUT RETURNING THE BOAT LATE?
    • The boats are delivered specifically for you and we will be there at your specified time.  Prior to rental-Delivery and Return times are determined by you.  Late returns may be charged $25 for every 15 minutes past the end of your rental period.  As soon as you realize you will be late, please call or text.  So we can do our best to accommodate.
    • If you tell us prior and during delivery that your return time is 6pm, then tell us at 2 or 3 or any time before 6 that you are at the dock waiting on us, don’t get upset with us if you have to wait.  We will do our best, but it is on you if we do not get enough notice to meet you at the different time.
  • WHAT ABOUT ALL THESE LATE FEES?
    • Think about the reason you are on the water and who you are with.  You are enjoying TIME with FAMILY and FRIENDS.  We also enjoy the same.  That’s the reason for the schedule.  We have set times for us to be finished by 11:30am and have 4-5 hours on a Saturday to enjoy our weekend as well before assisting your party in and hearing what a great time you all had.  Thank you for your understanding.
  • HOW TO RESERVE A PONTOON BOAT OR JET SKI OR FISHING BOAT?
    • 1.  Once you have a date(s) in mind-call, text or email for availability. 919-800-9716 7 days a week and 7am-9pm
    • 2.  Second thing is go to the appropriate page here on our site, whether it is Pontoon or Jet Ski or Fishing Boat, scroll down and click on ONLINE BOATER PARTICIPANT AGREEMENT.  Fill that out, submit.
    • 3.  On the same Rental page, scroll below the Agreement link and click on the appropriate BUY NOW button.  If you chose to call, please see the bottom paragraphs to help understand the reason we may not answer the first time you call.
    • Usually within a couple of days of the rental, you will get an email and a text.  It will have the location for pick up and ask you about life jackets and rental insurance.  Also will confirm times for pick up and return.  If you do not answer each and every question, we cannot guarantee life jackets for children and the default answer for rental insurance will be YES you want it.
  • IS PULLING A TUBE, SKIING OR WAKEBOARDING ALLOWED?
    • YES, finally YES!
    • And you need rental insurance.
  • CAN I RENT A TUBE OR ROPE FROM YOU?
    • NO.  As much as I want to help everyone have fun, a rope or tube, board, skis are equipment and yet another liability risk I chose to not take.  You are welcome to use your equipment, your neighbors, your cousin’s, whoever’s you can borrow.  We don’t supply the toys.
    • And you need rental insurance
  • ARE PETS ALLOWED ON THE BOATS?
    • We love our pets and will love on yours, but not on the boats.
  • IS THERE A DELIVERY FEE TO FALLS LAKE?
    • No
  • WHAT IS THE DELIVERY FEE TO OTHER LAKES?
    • $200 Keep in mind any other lake is 45 minutes to an hour away.  You are welcome to tow the craft yourself and save the delivery fee.
    • If the equipment is towed by the renter, rental insurance is automatically added.  Unless you have the homeowners rider policy that needs to be shown to us.
  • WHERE IS THE BOAT DELIVERED TO?
    • Hwy 50 Boat Ramp, 13900 Creedmoor Road, Wake Forest, NC 27587
  • WILL YOU DELIVER TO OTHER RAMPS?
    • If previous arrangements are made and the boat is needed prior to 8am or after 9pm-for fishing purposes-we can discuss it.  Not to Upper Barton.  Very dangerous exiting ramp onto Six Forks.
  • WHERE DO WE MEET YOU AT?
    • Hwy 50 Boat Ramp, 13900 Creedmoor Rd, Wake Forest.  There is a $7 entrance fee. While at the Boat Ramp, you will see the launching slips.  Park at the complete opposite end of the parking lot of the launching slips.  As you are walking towards the launching slips and looking at the lake on your right, on the right is a path that leads to a small loading dock.  That is our preferred point.  Especially on busy days, the launching slips are to put the boats in and take out of the water.  You will see others loading there and if you do, please look at the other boaters frustration while waiting on those that are not aware they are in the wrong or don’t care.  Also, people walking thru traffic is just dangerous.  Pulling around and backing is not everyone’s forte.  You will see others doing it, but Motor-Boaters have more respect and forethought, right?!!
  • DO WE PICK UP AT THE ADDRESS ON THE WEBSITE?
    • No.  2141 Sandy Plains Rd is our home and unless you are towing the watercraft, please meet us at the Hwy 50 Boat Ramp for a day on the water.
  • HOW FAR IN ADVANCE DO WE BOOK UP COMPLETELY?
    • Some weekends all boats are reserved a week or longer in advance.  There have been holidays that we have a boat not rented until the night before or that morning.  The answer to this question is-as soon as you know a date, that is when you should book it.
  • WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO RESERVE?
    • As soon as you are positive of a date, call and reserve.
  • ARE RESERVATIONS REQUIRED?
    • We strongly suggest reservations.  If we have a boat, you can rent it same day.  No guarantees of availability on any given day.  You can call, text, email.  Even for same day rentals.  Call for availability.  Mainly because we are not already in the water.  And if you just drive to our house, we may not be there to assist you.
  • WHAT TIMES ARE THE BOATS AVAILABLE?
    • Hwy 50 boat ramp opens at 8am and that is our 1st delivery of the day.  Last boat is out at 11am.  Returns in no later than 6pm.  We are flexible.  These times are preplanned prior to the day of rental.  Renters can’t just leave the boat at the dock or the skis beached.  They are the renter’s responsibility until you see and speak to a representative of Motor-Boatin LLC.
  • CAN YOU LEAVE THE BOAT UNATTENDED?
    • NO the answer to this question with any additional reasoning is still NO.  Hwy 50 boat ramp is a public ramp and no watercraft can be left unattended.  To go to the restrooms or your vehicle, sure.  To go to the store, NO.  The obvious reason is it could be stolen or vandalized and it is your responsibility during the entire rental period.  It is the renter’s responsibility until they see and speak to a representative of Motor-Boatin LLC.   If you feel you will need to leave the boat ramp in your vehicle-please delegate someone to stay with and on the craft while you are gone.
    • If you rent a boat and a jet ski on the same day PLEASE bring enough operators to take all equipment with you.  Don’t come back on the boat with 1 person if you are picking up 2 skis.  The equipment CANNOT be left unattended.
  • WHAT TIMES ARE THE JET SKIS AVAILABLE?
    • Skis are available by the hour at $100/hr plus gas.  Gas averages 3 gals/hr.  Half day is 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm.  Full day is 8am-5pm or anytime in the time range.
  • DO YOU HAVE HALF DAY PONTOON RENTAL RATES?
    • No.  The boat is yours for the day and if you only want half day hours, please arrange that at the time of reservation.  No half day rates.  No prorated rates either for late pick ups or early returns.
  • IS GAS INCLUDED?
    • Prices do not include fuel. Like a car rental, you start with a full tank of gas and it is refueled when finished. Fuel consumption will vary depending on your usage.  Motor-Boatin will fill it up for you and charge the card on file for your convenience.  We use non-ethanol gas.  We price match the only other option on the lake.  This will allow you to enjoy your full rental time enjoying the water.
    • DO NOT bring gas cans with gas thinking you will fill up on your own.  Odds are, the gas is not Non-Ethanol and is not what we put in the equipment.
  • WHERE CAN THE BOAT OR SKI BE FILLED UP ON THE LAKE?
    • There is 1 place on the lake to fill up the gas.  The Marina.  It is West of the Hwy 50 boat ramp.  If you decide to fill up there, please allow yourself plenty of time to get there, fill up and another 10-15 minutes to get to the dock at the preset time.  And please take into consideration, we will top off the tank on every return and if it is more than 1 gallon the renter will be charged.  We know it doesn’t take a full gallon between the Marina and the dock.
  • WHAT IS ON THE LAKE?
    • The only business is the Marina.  There are several swimming areas and boat ramps.  Please remember every swimming area will have a bathroom, but not all boat ramps have them.
  • WHEN DO YOU GET YOUR SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK?  The release/charges will be made within 7 business days of rental
    • Once the craft is returned, inspected and it is full of gas- the hold is released.  After that, it depends on how long your credit card company takes to release the hold.
    • If there are damages, you will be notified before I withhold any amount other than the gas.  The gas is in addition to the $500 security deposit if there is any damages.
  • CAN YOU RENT DURING THE WEEK?
    • Yes absolutely.  We recommend reservations and most days can do same day rental.
  • PLEASE NOTE
    • DO NOT ALL GATHER AND AT THE BACK OF THE BOAT AND TAKE A SELFIE OR GATHER AT THE BACK OF THE BOAT AT ONE TIME FOR ANY REASON.  It may be safe to gather at the front of the boat to take a selfie.  NOT the back of the boat.  Pontoons have motors on the back.  All the weight of the riders on the back of the boat will submerge the motor.  Yes it is a motor for the water.  No it is not built to run UNDER the water or to even crank after being submerged.
  • RENTAL INSURANCE AND DAMAGE DEPOSIT
    • $55 for Pontoon Boats
    • $45 for Fishing Boats
    • $35 for Jet Skis
    • Renters are UNINSURED while renting our equipment.  Yes we have business insurance, but you need insurance.  Most people do not have Watercraft insurance at home that will cover rental boats.  If you are a Homeowner, please check with your Insurance Agent regarding a Watercraft rider that can be added for a short period of time.  It could be cheaper than our fees.
    • Our fees are not money making schemes.  They are actually to protect you from me if you damage our equipment and have no remorse about it.  Think about it…
    • If you do not answer when I ask if you want it, the default answer is YES you do need it.
    • If you are doing watersports, you need it!

THINGS TO HELP BE MORE RESPECTFUL AT THE DOCK

SCHEDULING TIMES-I would like to say-when determining your pick up times, please take into consideration the earliness of the day, the people in your party that drag their feet and don’t believe in late fees, traffic, life.  Please don’t set 10am (or any other time) then show up 10-15 minutes late.  Just set the time for 10:15.  Once you arrive, there is about 5-10 minutes of instructional time depending on questions and eager family/friends, then you are free.  Loading your things can be done after the instructional or better yet, have the rest of your party lug everything down while you stand in the shade and learn about the boat.  We try to be there, in the water waiting on you at your time.  Please be on time.

LOADING YOUR BOAT-The loading dock where we will meet you with the boat is small.  It accommodates 4 boats, if the operators are brave, 2 mostly.  Once we are thru the instructions, please quickly load the boat and move in the water.  Do not sit there waiting for the rest of your party to arrive.  Move into the cove and wait.  You can always dock again and pick the rest of the people up.

IF YOU SEE AN EMPTY MOTOR-BOATIN BOAT AT THE DOCK Please wait for someone to help you.  It may be another rental party’s boat.

The funny and head scratching questions to me are-I’m sure I will be adding more…

  • WHERE ARE THE BRAKES? or HOW DO I STOP THIS THING?
    • As much as I think those are hilarious, newbies to the operations of watercrafts have asked these.  The answer is There are no brakes.  Which is #3 in the Instructional/Educational part you are told when you first step on the boat.
  • HOW DO I STOP JET SKIS?
    • You can’t.  These Jet Skis have no neutral.  Forward or Reverse and if you are just cruising in to beach somewhere, use the reverse to HELP maneuver.  There is no stopping.  That is #3 in the Instructional/Educational part you are told before taking off.
  • WHY ISN’T THE BOAT MOVING?
    • I did have a customer call and I could hear the motor running, it was a new boat and they were not moving.  I asked if the motor was in the water and (giggle) it was trimmed all the way out.  So I seriously say in a joking manner, “The motor works best trimmed down in the water.”  The trim button is on the gear shifter and your thumb easily squeezes it to the up position.
  • THE BOAT WILL NOT CRANK
    • This could be valid.  However, only one time in over 200 rentals this year has that been valid.  The over 99.5% is-be sure the shifter is in neutral and be sure the kill switch is attached.  Unless your entire party has gathered at the back of the boat and submerged the motor, then in that case-It ain’t gonna crank!  Stop trying, it is doing more damage!

Below are a few things that will help you understand Motor Boatin LLC a little better

  • WHY AREN’T WE ANSWERING THE PHONE WHEN YOU ARE CALLING EVERY FEW MINUTES?
    • We love the the boat company and we are open for business all year.  However, we do work “other” jobs Monday thru Friday 8am-5pm.  There are times we receive 50+ calls a day for boats and it isn’t cool to answer that many calls while working another job.  That is the reason texting, emailing or voicemails are so important.  Texting is answered the quickest and emails are the next best way and I respond quickly and all through out the day.  Voice messages are returned usually at a lunch break or after 5pm.  The VM is converted to text and I do write down the names of all messages (voice, text, email) and take reservations in the order they were received.  To address calling back to back and not leaving messages-please leave a message the first time you call.  If time is of the essence, say so and I can text or try to step away and return a quick call.  If you are excited enough to call and call trying to get us to answer, leave a message.  You will then be in front of the next person that leaves a message between your calling back to back.
  • WHERE IS THE LAKE AT 2141 SANDY PLAINS RD, WAKE FOREST?
    • This is the address of our business.  If you visit, you can’t see the water, there isn’t a dock or ramp and you will probably meet our animals but they can’t help with reservations.  Call, Text or email for questions or reservations.  While you are there, feel free to look at the boats and skis and imagine yourself, family and friends out in the Open, Motor Boatin.  If you see the neighbors, don’t worry, they don’t bite.  Just know we will get a call before you get turned around.  Love them!  Much better than our security cameras.  OH and give us a wave to say Hello.  SMILE you are on candid camera 🙂
  • HOW DO YOU RENT IF WE AREN’T AT THE MARINA OR HAVE A DOCK?
    • We deliver the watercraft to the water specifically for you at preset times to Hwy 50 Boat Ramp, 13900 Creedmoor Rd, Wake Forest.  It is extremely important and respectful to be as prompt as possible and even more so if you are going to be late, please let us know.  Even tho we are dedicated to Motor Boatin and love meeting each of you, it is the weekend and we have family to enjoy as well.  So a well kept plan is good for everyone.
  • WHO IS TYPING ALL THIS AND WHO ARE YOU TALKING TO OR MEETING AT THE DOCK?
    • Usually Suzanne, that’s me.  I answer the phone (see the 1st question in this section), return calls, make the schedule and finalize things.  I honestly enjoy and revel in operating this business.  I look forward to meeting everyone I’ve spoken to and hear the stories at the end of the day.  I deliver the boats too.  My favorite thing is getting back to our Grandson, Jax for our Saturday playtime.  Jax is the reason for the boats being out by 11am and hopefully stay out until 5pm.
    • Randy, my Hubby, is behind all this.  I wanted a boat!  He isn’t a water baby like me and knew that we wouldn’t put it to use like I was thinking we would.  He checked the cost of renting vs owning and found there are very minimal options for boat rentals at Falls Lake.  Blah Blah..here we are.  Turns out that we enjoy helping others make memories on our boats more than we thought we would.  Great idea Hubby!  He helps deliver the boats but leaves the talking up to me and the others.  If he helps get you out on the water, it is an As-a-matter-of-fact talk and off you go.  He is the one with the beard and business focus.  Ask him about Gold Mining 😉
    • Dan- I call him Daniel because that’s what he introduced himself as and I just can’t help myself now.  He is new with us and is a natural with the boats.  From Durham and easy going.  If you have a weekly rental you will meet him and most weekends as well.
    • Chris- Chris is also new with us.  From Oxford and a Volunteer Firefighter.  He is the baby here.  He is a quick learner and has that southern accent.  You will see him on the weekends and if we are lucky and get really busy, some weekday mornings to help out Daniel.
